WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN? PART 2
What is a Christian part 2
According to Christianity, what is God and why should we favor him over the devil?
What God Is (According to Christianity)
1. The Eternal Creator
- "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1).
- Unlike the devil (a fallen created being, Ezekiel 28:15), God is uncreated, self-existent (Exodus 3:14), and sustains all life (Acts 17:28).
2. Perfectly Holy and Just
- "God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all" (1 John 1:5).
- Satan embodies corruption (John 8:44), but God cannot tolerate evil (Habakkuk 1:13).
3. Love Itself
- "God is love" (1 John 4:8). He proved this by sending Christ to die for sinners (Romans 5:8).
- Satan seeks to "steal, kill, and destroy" (John 10:10).
4. The Only Savior
- "Salvation belongs to the Lord" (Jonah 2:9). Christ alone redeems (Acts 4:12).
- Satan enslaves through sin (Romans 6:16); God frees through grace (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Why to Favor God Over the Devil
1. Moral Necessity
- God is the definition of good (Matthew 19:17); the devil is the father of evil (1 John 3:8). Choosing God is choosing life (Deuteronomy 30:19).
2. Authority and Power
- God is omnipotent (Jeremiah 32:27); Satan is a defeated foe (Colossians 2:15).
- "Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4).
3. Eternal Destiny
- Follow God: Eternal joy in His presence (Revelation 21:3-4).
- Follow Satan: Eternal separation from God (Matthew 25:41).
4. Purpose and Identity
- In God, we find true purpose (Ephesians 2:10) and adoption as His children (John 1:12).
- Satan offers only emptiness (Isaiah 55:2) and bondage (2 Timothy 2:26).
Ultimate reason: God is worthy of worship (Revelation 4:11); the devil seeks worship he doesn’t deserve (Matthew 4:9). Choosing God aligns us with reality, love, and victory.
